Austin Christmas Bird Count

Usually on the 3rd Saturday of December every year

The Austin Christmas Bird Count is the longest running citizen science bird monitoring program in Central Texas.  Birdwatchers count all the birds that can detect in a 15-mile diameter circle centered near McKinney Falls State Park. A venerable tradition, the count started in 1953 and regularly has over 100 participants.  Bird numbers vary from year to year but usually range from 130 to 150 species.

Hornsby Bend is a well covered section of the count as it usually has close to 100 species and typically a few birds that are not detected elsewhere in the circle.  For more information on the count, please visit the Austin CBC website.

If you would like to see historical results, please visit the Audubon CBC website.  The code for the Austin CBC is "TXAU".

If you would like to participate on the Hornsby section, contact Eric Carpenter.
